Across the country books are being banned, particularly books that highlight LGBTQ+ experiences, and content relating to Black history and the Black lived-experience. In the most oppressive schools, libraries are being eliminated all together and being turned into detention centers. As advocates for informational freedom we hope that this book club will bring greater awareness to banned books and share information about who is banning them and why. We are partnering with Emerald Cocktail Kitchen for two series of meetups: Late Winter/Early Spring, which will run from January-April; and Autumn, which will run from September-November.
For this first event series, we'll be highlighting the book Gender Queer by Maia Kobabe. The book Gender Queer: A Memoir is a 2019 graphic memoir written and illustrated by Maia Kobabe. It recounts Kobabe's journey from adolescence to adulthood and the author's exploration of gender identity and sexuality, ultimately identifying as being outside of the gender binary.
By purchasing a ticket to join this event, you're granted access to Emerald Cocktail Kitchen for this private book discussion and social. Your ticket includes the specialty mocktail or cocktail that corresponds with the book Gender Queer by Maia Kobabe.
